Gene: [10^/PRKM8] protein kinase, mitogen-activated 8 (MAP kinase); stress-activated protein kinase 1; c-jun N-terminal kinase 1;
SUM | [1] The
c-Jun kinases (JNKs) are members of the mitogen-activated protein kinase
(MAPK) family that stimulate the transcriptional activity of c-jun
transcription factor (GEM:01p3/JUN) in response
to growth factors, proinflammatory cytokines, and certain environmental
stresses, such as short wavelength UV light and osmotic shock. On other MAP
kinases and MAP kinase cascades see in: GEM:22q112/PRKM1; GEM:15q22/PRKMK1. [2] In humans, the JNK family includes: JNK1 (GEM:10^/PRKM8), JNK2 (GEM:05q35/PRKM9) and JNK3 (GEM:21q21/PRKM10). The JNKs are activated by treatment of cells with the inflammatory cytokine IL1 (GEM:02q13/IL1A; GEM:02q13/IL1B) and are inactivated by MKP1 (GEM:05q34/DUSP1)." |
